Rest can bring a busy mind a bit of peace in the midst of turmoil. It’s underrated and undervalued. Throughout your week, there are a couple easy ways you can slowly incorporate a little bit of rest into your daily routine. They are simple changes and can be incorporated daily, weekly, or even monthly.

Ridiculously Simple Shortcuts to Rest

1. Instead of television, motivate yourself to read a book.

It’s so (so) easy to sit down and turn on the tv. For a change of pace, and a much more mentally engaging activity, give up your tv time for a book. Books are a beautiful way to distract your mind and soak into another story.

2. Instead of rushing to bed, find a beauty routine.

Sometimes I catch myself rushing to get to bed, mindlessly hustling through my nighttime routine. Instead, try to find an extra five minutes for self care () and take the extra step to do something you might not do normally (like a face mask). This doesn’t have to be daily, but can be a weekly routine to help slow you down.

3. Instead of scrolling your phone, make time for creativity.

It’s so easy to sit down and scroll your phone after a long day at work. Instead of losing an hour to screen time, fill some of this time with creativity. Maybe that means journaling a few lines about your day, or taking a moment to paint. Habits are much easier to build than people give themselves credit for.

4. Instead of dinner alone, start a conversation.

So many times when I am eating alone, I find myself caught up on my phone. Instead, meal time should be centered around people. Taking time in the evening to share a meal (and maybe some laughs) with others can be an integral part of your day. Use it as a chance to unwind, share ideas, and get lost in new perspectives.

Remember, these things can be incorporated into your lifestyle daily, weekly, or monthly. To help you find rest, fill your life with intentional things that add value and bring you an emotional response. How do you plan on finding rest this week?
