Creative Musings—Melissa Jenkins

A ray of sunshine. Nothing could describe this human any better. So full of energy and enthusiasm for the free will of creating. The fourth person I shared a conversation with was someone that I followed since my beginning days on Instagram. It was so wonderful to finally connect.

She filled our conversation with curiosity. She spoke so openly about working with her hands to gain knowledge and understanding. This perspective comes from her process of creating supplies. Living in a rural landscape, adventure is the soul of her materials, collecting plants and turning them into botanical inks. She shared her thoughts about the value she has for the materials she explores.

I also loved her thoughts on having a sustainable studio cycle. But, what I loved was how she also related this cycle to her creative space. She talked about encouraging a space that feels right to you, whether that be filling it with supplies, or keeping it at a minimum. Over time it will grow and mend to present its needs.

This conversation radiated joy throughout my entire studio. It was a friendly reminder to find adventure in approaching new realms with your hands and being open to the ebb and flow in your studio space.
